If you choose to schedule an appointment with me you can expect a comfortable atmosphere and a relaxed non-judgmental attitude. In the beginning, I will ask more questions but once baseline knowledge is obtained I become less directive and believe that each client will expose their thoughts & feelings if given the space to do so. I am guided by the philosophy that your recovery is your road and your goals are the most important part of our time together. I have found that the areas that need addressing may not be obvious at first but in time they show themselves to us.
Self-awareness is a primary objective and I utilize a variety of skill-building and process based techniques to help my clients achieve their self-determined goals.

Hi there! I’m a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor and Clinical Social Worker, and I’m passionate about helping people find healing and growth. I earned my Master of Clinical Social Work from the University of St. Thomas and St. Catherine University, and I’ve had the privilege of working extensively with a diverse client population as well as Southeast Asian refugee and immigrant communities.
My approach to therapy is about creating a warm, supportive, insightful and non-judgmental space where you feel safe and challenged to grow. Building a strong connection with you is important to me, because I believe that every interaction is a chance for healing, learning, and personal growth. I know that everyone’s journey is unique, and we all heal at our own pace. That’s why I tailor my approach to fit your specific needs, drawing from a variety of evidence-based methods. These include insights from attachment theory, positive psychology, strength-based work, mindfulness practices, Adlerian therapy, and a humanistic perspective. I also specialize in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) counseling, which can be particularly helpful for managing intense emotions and improving relationships.
Like a gem buried in the earth, every life holds a unique brilliance within, even if it’s currently hidden beneath layers of rough.I believe with the right support through therapy, that inner gem can be polished and shine brightly for the world to see.

I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Grand Valley State University and Masters of Educational Psychology from Baylor University. Upon graduation I studied Spanish in Guadalajara, Mexico before moving from Texas to Michigan. I passed the national counseling examination and became licensed to practice counseling in 2005.
If you choose to schedule an appointment with me you can expect a comfortable atmosphere and a relaxed non-judgmental attitude. I follow the 80/20 rule; I expect the client to talk 80% of the time with my clinical comments / insights accounting for the remaining 20% of the dialogue. I encourage each client to tell me what it is that they need from me (education, insights, advice, validation, etc.). Everyone has blind spots and I am honored to be given the opportunity to help identify and speak into the blind spots of my clients.

I grew up south of Chicago in a small working-class town. I came to Grand Rapids when I decided to study at Calvin University, earning a degree in German language and history. I graduated from Grand Valley State University with my Master’s of Social Work with an emphasis in clinical work. I have a precocious young son and a very weird cat.
My assumption is that it’s taken some time for you to consider reaching out to a therapist. It is so necessary and also difficult to become vulnerable to talk about what you would like different for your life. My job is to get a complete picture of what is happening in your life, what you would like to be different, and how to make that happen.
I am, at heart, a Logotherapist. I want for you to develop a sense of purpose and meaning for your life, at which point, you will no longer need a therapist. All the clinical interventions I use, cognitive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprogramming (EMDR), exposure therapy, motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, are all a means to that end.

With more than 25 years of experience in the Health and Wellness Industry, I am passionate about helping others learn the profound significance diet and nutrition have on our total body health and livelihood.
Although, there are some fundamental truths applicable to all, I do not use a “one size fits all” approach. How each person chooses to eat and how their body responds to what they eat is different. It is my job to help clients learn to listen to their body. I also work diligently to teach clients how to eat so that their bodies are given the opportunity to repair, restore, and thrive, the way they were created to.
