10 million people are likely suffering from complicated grief in the United States. While loss is a natural part of life, it is not an easy time for individuals. Some people may experience what’s called “complicated grief” after a death, where they have lost someone who they had a strong and meaningful relationship with, making the loss even more difficult to handle. Experiencing grief and loss can cause individuals to experience feelings of sadness, guilt, or depression for prolong periods of time. During these times, individuals may feel like they are unable to cope and have difficultly being able to adjust in day to day life. This can begin to negatively impact one’s mental health, relationships, and ability to function in work and school settings.
